My favorite things

When I was fairly new at sewing, Mamma bought me a machine so I could make my school clothes, and then while I was at the Singer place, I saw this little expanding sewing cabinet called a Syskrin. I looked longingly at it so my mamma put it on layaway for me. I was so excited to get it. I had the thing for about 35 years before it finally bit the dust. Well,I was at my quilt show this past weekend and one of the vendors had one. Well, I had to have it! Wanna see it? Here it is !!!

When I was searching I found several people looking for one of these. There were several on ebay some with and without legs. And different styles from different countries.

Willa, I wish I had known you wanted one. Mine has been in a closet for years.Of course postage would probably have been a bear. Glad you found an old friend.

I have a Syskrin just like the one you have. It holds a lot of thread. I love it. I didn't know it had a name.

Only just catching up on blogs. I have one of this. When my grandfather died, he left very little, so my mother bought one of these, about 40 years ago, with the money from him.

She passed it on to me. We have take the legs off, but I still use it and love it.
