My "butt ugly" crazy quilt blocks

Several years ago, there was a quilt shop in Daytona Beach called Pelican Quiltworks. I used to attend Saturday Sew In's there. We would pay $15 an get dessert and a massage (if you were so inclined). I really hit it off with the massage therapist and she loved crazy quilts. She had acquired 26 old crazyquilt blocks from an estate sale and she gave them to me. Some of them are quilte unattractive to my eyes, but I love them all the same. These are all the blocks lined up and some close-ups follow. Some of these include the backs of the blocks. Enjoy!

Now they're not butt ugly,
What a bit of history you got. Love the backs as well as the fronts. I'm sure if you do the embellishing on the front it will be one gorgeous quilt!

These are NOT butt ugly!
And the backs are really cool, it would be a shame to cover them up.

I've always wanted to try using a very sheer organza on the back of a CQ, just so all that stitching and knots and stuff on the back can show too.

I have some butt ugly blocks that someone gave me, too. They are mostly wool. The thing is, someone took the time to make them, and they loved them, so it is ok to love them too. All CQ's are special as they link us together as sisters. They are not ugly beacause someone took the time from their life to make them. Like you,I am gratful to have them.

Hi Willa,

I too have some old wool CQ blocks that would be considered Ugly Ducklings that someone gave me. Some of them have yellow Herringbone stitches on the seams. I have never known what to do with them.

Not ugly at all. They are beautiful!! Just think of the woman who made them and the dreams she must have had for her quilt as she made the blocks. Now you get to make it come true by sewing the blocks together. They would look lovely if they were framed by black cotton velveteen, not wide strips but just enough to set them apart. I need to visit your blog more often!

Hey WIlla!! Long time no talk!! I have some pretty butt ugly blocks , that I actually pieced myself 7 years ago when I first started CQ. They still sit at the bottom of my UFO Laundry basket. Hmmm I have no idea what to do with them. What are ya gunna do with yours? As for the block in the front row with the mint green centerpatch, I can see a bunch of red SRE, red and green embellish ments. Maybe osme mauve oand maroon, too. And a lot of sparckle. Gotta have sparckle. Kim Snover
